Intelligent Translate Function for a natural language app

  • Mobile personal assistant pulls out the exact phrase to be translated from users’ sentences
  • Can create and send text messages automatically translated into another language
  • Can translate our natural language app’s responses into other languages
  • Can display translated text in languages where TTS is not installed eg Mandarin, Arabic
  • 60 languages supported

Artificial Solutions, the natural language interaction (NLI) specialist that enables users to have a meaningful, human-like interaction with technology, announced today a new translate functionality in its mobile personal assistant app that continues to demonstrate the assistant’s intelligence by only responding with words the user actually wants translated.

For example, ask our natural language app “How do I say I would like a beer in French” and rather than translating the whole sentence she just responds with the answer the user is looking for “Je voudrais une bière”. Ask our natural language app “and a glass of red wine” and because she has a memory, can persist conversations and understands the context our natural language app knows that the user is asking for the words not just to be translated, but translated in French too.

Like all personal assistants our natural language app allows users to send text messages using only voice. The new translate feature now enables users to have the text message automatically translated into another language before sending. For instance, say “Send a text to Sam Price saying let’s meet at the airport at 2 pm in Dutch” and our natural language app will create a text to Sam Price that says, “laten we elkaar ontmoeten op de luchthaven om 14:00”.

This new feature which is already available for download from both the Google Play Store and Windows Phone Store, is capable of translating over 60 languages. A free to download personal assistant app, our natural language app is the showcase of Artificial Solutions’ Teneo™ platform that enables developers to quickly and easily create platform and device independent highly intelligent virtual assistants.

“our natural language app’s new translation feature highlights the difference that NLI can make in natural language applications,” says Andy Peart, CMO of Artificial Solutions. “By intelligently interpreting what the user is actually asking, our natural language app can discard the words that are irrelevant for the translation, but still retain the key information, such as the language required, to be used in following interactions without needing to be reminded of the context.”

In addition to the new translate feature, our natural language app is capable of doing everything a user might expect of a personal assistant app from sending a message or giving directions to playing a tune. Unlike other personal assistant apps that are trapped on one device, our natural language app has a memory, she knows a user’s preferences – their likes and dislikes, and because she knows who they are, she can follow them as they switch devices from a computer to a smartphone or tablet, regardless of manufacturer or operating system used. In addition, our natural language app’s persistence capabilities enable a user to continue a conversation as they switch devices.

Our natural language app is available for devices running Windows Phone 8, and an Android Phone or Tablet operating V.4 and above (Ice Cream Sandwich and Jellybean), and works across multiple browsers including Safari and Explorer. Some languages will require the user to install the relevant TTS file (text to speech) for the translate function to ‘speak’ the translation.
